CGT Calls for National Strike Against Labor Reform

The leadership of the CGT has called for a general strike without mobilization for the day the labor reform is discussed in the Chamber of Deputies. This decision was made following a virtual meeting between the co-chairs of the central labor union, Octavio Argüello (Truckers), Jorge Sola (Insurance), and Cristian Jerónimo (Glass Workers). According to sources from the CGT, the union will hold a national strike on the day the project is debated in the lower house, with the support of all transport unions, though without an organized march. "This means that we are no longer even guaranteed the most basic rights that protect the worker," the statement says. Previously, in case of unforeseen conflicts in the contract, the Labor Contract Law (LCT) was invoked to protect the sailor or captain. "If we don't fight today to stop this, we will end up precarious and working for a miserable salary," said the union leader. He also pointed out that Article 2 of the reform explicitly excludes embarked personnel, placing them on the same level as deprived liberty individuals. However, the sector's unions will have 'freedom of action.' On Wednesday at 11:00, the CGT will hold a press conference at its Azopardo headquarters to provide further statements. The secretary general of the River Captains Center, Mariano Moreno, warned that the labor reform excludes sailors from the Labor Contract Law.
